CHOICES
Choose to Live
You know what scares the crap out of me... living an insignificant life!
I heard a pastor challenge our San Clemente Church a few years back saying, should your church close down tomorrow, would the community even notice...
Should you and me not be around in 10 years from now... would the world notice, would the world feel the difference?
There is a voice that calls us out of the monotony of life. It calls us to start living significant lives, but ignore it... and it will dim to silence. We don’t make a conscious decision to stop living significant lives, for many of us, it’s a slow letting go in each moment and before you know it you are cruising down the river with the masses headed towards where ever the popular culture will lead you.
What good is salt without flavor? Do you flavor the lives of your wife, your kids, your friends or do you merely exist in their lives. We all know and want to be around flavorful people.
Reading: Chasing Daylight- Erwin McManus
“We are all haunted with the fear of living insignificant lives and we all hear the voice that tells us we can live the dream. Somehow we all know that to play safe is to lose the game. By definition an adventure is “an undertaking or enterprise of a hazardous nature.” In other words, it comes at great risk and at a significant cost. And life as God intends for you to live it is noting less than an adventure. You were created for both pleasure and purpose. You might be thinking, I’m not sure I want to undertake and enterprise of hazardous nature. Is a life of adventure really worth the risk? Is it really necessary? Yes, you can choose to play it safe, you can choose to settle for less, but never forget this: You were born to live a great adventure, you were created with a divine destiny You are called to fulfill a great mission. You were designed for a unique purpose. No live it out!
Prayer: Jesus Awaken our dry bones to live radical lives within every moment, every environment, every relationship you bring our way this day, this week! Stir up our hearts. Lord without the end goal, this day seems impossible to live out. Give us the 50 000 foot view of what you have in mind for your world!
Challenge: Take 10 min to write down all your dreams and passions you feel growing or once believed were for your life, some of us need a reminding. There is something about seeing it on paper.
Blessings,
Rob

November 12, 2008 at 5:51 PMI'm glad that you mentioned passion, because I believe that embracing it is the foundation to living the life God intended. It's not hard to find people who do nothing with their passions, they are all around us. I think those of us who have realized our passions or at least recognize its power have a unique challenge of getting others to do the same. In a world that demands processes, formulas, and order, its difficult to articulate how to discover your passions and then embrace them. However, I think McManus makes some excellent points that certain are beginning to communicate this notion of embracing passion in clear ways.
